Charity of the Evening: Pleasanton Police Officer’s Charitable Association
The Charity of the Evening is the Pleasanton Police Officers Charitable Foundation (PPOCF). Since its establishment in 2001, the PPOCF has given gifts of financial assistance to countless families, individuals, and local charities throughout the city of Pleasanton and the Tri-Valley. In addition, the Foundation provides assistance with advancing the professional standards of law enforcement officers throughout the state of California. In the last year alone, working with such groups as the Pleasanton Unified School District and the Pleasanton Senior Center and through the awareness of its members, the PPOCF has donated thousands of dollars and countless hours in volunteer time to the needs of our community. In December, the Foundation’s Giving Tree event, through generous donations and foundation purchases, allowed the PPOCF to provide Holiday gifts to nearly two dozen different families and more than a few senior citizens and individuals who would otherwise have had nothing to open on Christmas morning. The gifts often arrive unexpectedly and are hand delivered by uniformed police officers in marked police cars and even the department’s Armored Rescue Vehicle. In addition, in May, School Resource Officers Marty Billdt and Michael Rossillon learned of a family in need within the Pleasanton Unified School District and rushed to help. The mother had been the victim of repeated domestic violence incidents, had no financial support, and had to move from Pleasanton. In an effort to disrupt her children’s lives as little as possible, the mother wanted to keep her children in their Pleasanton schools until the end of the school year. However, having no financial support and unreliable transportation, this proved extraordinarily difficult. With only enough money to pay for food, she could not make repairs to her vehicle and her children began to miss days of school. Upon learning of this dire situation, Officers Billdt and Rossillon, through the Foundation, immediately provided the mother a check that covered all the necessary repairs to her vehicle.
Over the years, PPOCF has provided financial assistance and contributed to many needs and worthy causes such as Pleasanton Partners in Education, Children’s Hospital and Research Center, NorCal Concerns of Police Survivors, the Dillon Strong Foundation, Veteran’s organizations, Special Olympics, and many more. And for several years we have worked with the Turning Wheels for Kids organization to provide bicycles to numerous children throughout Pleasanton. In the spring, the Foundation also provides a $1,500 scholarship to one student selected from each of our three Pleasanton high schools.
